Although I had some difficulties to go through inside this class, I found my way out by reading the assignments descriptions and what it took for us to do it. Something that I really enjoyed was the amount of time we had to do our assignments and how helpful our class was. In addition to that, I was struggling with my website because it is so hard to control and manage CUNY Academic Commons. Not only that, but how stressful it was to do something in our website, and it just reloads but does note edit anything. That was kinda frustrating, honestly. Finally, I did enjoy the class and really liked the class and the dynamic of the professor through our semester.
Throughout this FIQWS course I’ve come across some challenges and succeeded somehow. I found myself struggling with the rhetorical terms. Honestly, “medium” and “genre” were the ones that I found so hard to describe and explain in my essay. I’d say that these two were difficult because of how I structured my essay, which was based only on explaining how the article works and what the author says, with its purpose, rather than describing medium and genre. Not only that, but how I had to deal with my explanations and the terms that I did not understand. Also, by putting a lot of attention to the word count. Although this was difficult to accomplish, writing essays is something that I do enjoy. So, writing this essay was a nice process since the topic I chose was of my interest and something I wanted to investigate and write about. Additionally, something that I learned was to peer review correctly. As I said in previous writing assignments, “The critical analysis that this essay has brought to be is something that I will continue to use not only on my assignments, but in my life. This is because the analysis that I used in my essay was to explain the author’s purpose rather than to have an opinion or thought and that was so hard for me since I like to explain everything I see from my perspective.”, made me investigate more about what the author was trying to convey rather than what I think about the source. I feel like I learned a lot and could keep improving my writing assignments. Lastly, it was a wonderful experience, I learned a lot and, I loved the time we had to complete this. No rush, just taking our time and doing peer review.
That was the Rhetorical Analysis, but even harder was the Argument Essay. This is because now rather than present others’ ideas, you had to explain yourself and convince other people to agree with what you wrote about. I took advantage of my essay-writing experience, I developed strategies of reading and writing my essay because of the 5 pieces of evidence we had to use. Reading, taking out the important excerpts and then putting them into the structure of the essay was something I found interesting and hard at the same time. Although it was so hard to sometimes find myself into all thoughts, it was curious for me to explore new ideas, arguments, and topics – tho sometimes choosing the topics for the students is kind of bad.
Finally, what I found the hardest to do; the Public Awareness Campaign. It was so difficult to combine ideas withing the group. Also, it is so hard to find time to meet, record and edit the website. I feel like it is a lot of stress that might be narrowed down to just doing the project by yourself.
